Novelty
I sometimes wonder if by keeping this website alive, I am part of the problem.
By writing, I am providing the algorithm what it desires most: novelty. The algorithm has the same craving for new information that I do. Only it is able to consume much more. It has devoured the entire internet yet still desires more.
Small, independent corners of the web are probably the only places where novelty can still be found. Every other platform has been flooded with AI-generated content, the perfect poison for the all-hungry machine.
Am I feeding the monster by continuing to write this way? By writing, am I part of the problem?
The beauty of the internet is that it is open to everybody. Every device is able to connect to every other. Yet this approach has begun to show its weaknesses. The onslaught of bots, scrapers, and now agents grows stronger every day.
Perhaps it is time for a return to gated communities. Small, private networks with human oversight and management. Like your company or university intranet. But I feel that this would be the greatest loss.
I wonder how much longer the internet will stagger on before it dies.
